    the actual AI isnt that good...

    protecting sectors with Ai is actually hard, they follow every enemy and never come back.
    protect sector: x,x,x

    primary target: astronauts / Ais / Turrets /...
    secondary target: astronauts / Ais / Turrets /...
    tertiary target: astronauts / Ais / Turrets /...

    follow player: yes / no

    or something more

    Essentially what you suggested is having the ability to make ships act as Crew? (plus a few other features i really like, like protect sector)

    I agree fully. With this, conquering enemy sectors will become a lot more interesting, as will protecting one's own home sector. Not to mention the ability to have escort vessels actually accompany players' ships. I await the day when the sweeping form of my cruiser no longer must venture into the deeps of the Final Frontier alone. :P

    A possibility is adding the ability to use the AI to push asteroids in, or out of ships paths, or perhaps contain guns, i also think AI turrets should be able to shoot power-supply beams and repair beams at friendly ships.

    Yeah, I can imagine it... A thousand or so Aethi Drone Ships following my Avar-Kiaan-class Cruiser, along with four corvettes and two frigates. Or, even better, a large swarm of "spiderweb" stop beam drones. That could be scary as hell. (Oh, and I could give them EMP beams too... Complete deactivation of enemy ships... o_O)

    Hey look! I found a thread buried behind several pages with a really good idea!

    Anyway, I'd like to see a guard drone capable of remaining in a general area. Remaining within a sector sounds like the easiest way, although being able to station a sphere of drones around a station or planet would be somewhat more useful.

    This would really help fleets that depend in AI ships to take down their enemies, so they don't have to have huge carriers carrying them around. Instead you could just set them to follow your awesome mega capital ship and conquer the galaxy! (Evil Laugh)

    There should also be a kamikaze setting. I love the idea of thousands of tiny drones slamming into someone......

    And the ai should be able to fly with the friction turned off (right now they just keep spinning and pirates keep on flying in the same direction).

    it could also be usefull if you can use it for mining drones, lets say you can set the drones to mine astroids in sector 4, 4, 4 and it will go to that sector and mine astroids and then comeback to the sector where it came from, could be really handy if you want to build a big ship while drones can go earn money for you so you can buy the resources for the ship (once the economy is fixed)

    Wasn't there going to be ai programming? It is probably going to be like computercraft in minecraft, and in case people don't know what that means, it means that codes like that will be in the game. (Computercraft uses lua, which is easy to learn, and you get what you type. This is the reason why it will be like that, just basic things, like /fire_at_enemies, or something like that.)
