Arthur . Games . Binky's Facts and Opinions | PBS Kids
I'm gonna quote this when people keep stating their opinions as facts on this forum.
I don't believe I said "It is FACT that this is fine," now did I?

But since you brought it up, let's go over my message.

Most servers are not inverted FP servers.
    Fact.

Newbies need a safe place to dock up
Fact. Newbies need a safe place to dock and hide, because if assholes kill them, they will leave that server and likely the game as a whole.

    Therefore...

    This is fine.
My opinion is justified. While no opinion is fact, when you have facts to support them, they are valid opinions. Please, tell me why newbies being able to get killed by whoever, whenever, is a good idea for the default setting? The current situation, while it could POTENTIALLY do with some mass limits, is fine, as it prevents newbies from getting slain by sniveling weasel-dicked bastards who have nothing better to do with their time.

Now stop spamming random threads with irrelevant garbage and find something better to do with your time, Ace.

They are not that hard to find actually, you can see shops in the map view, and just keep warping from shop to shop until you see an NPC shopkeeper in the nav menu. You see shops that other people have explored, and most times they stick to a limited radius around their HB system for shop hunting.

Take notes of which shops are the advanced shops with the NPC and 4 rail dockers, and if you find someone using one, go ahead and leave a little surprise like a Pulse+Beam setup to stick the damage bubble into the core room (where it would kill them when they spawn into the ship, assuming they logged off at the shop), or a simple swarmer clock to essentially trap the ship at the shop until they can get backup to kill the clock with a bigger ship.
And at that point, if you had it set as a fleet AND were online when that happened, you would instantly be aware of the happenings and could try to gank them.
But the damage pulse paired with the range extending damage beam is by far my favorite weapon for this XD

But this is all if you want to engage in total war and guerrilla war.
If you want to fight in fleet combat, shops are basically a non issue.
In fact, it could be a way for a player to keep ships basically mothballed and have a "hidden" reserve that they think you dont know about. Players might be a bit more aggressive in fighting when they have ships to spare when they lose them.

And then the issue of docking tons of ships at your homebase is lots of lag whenever it is loaded, so fps and ping inclind players who usually just dump their ships 20+ systems above/below the galactic plane which makes it harder than finding a specific needle in Manhattan to parking ships at shops, and shops are visible on the map, making it a bit more like a needle in a haystack and less of an impossibility (considering scanners don't detect ships without players in them).

Also new players can log out and log back in without losing their stuff before they have the credits to spawn in a station, and nomadic players can winter weekdays of inactivity knowing their ship will still be their when they log back in.

It appears that the entire community disagrees with you guys. Again.

Repeat after me. Game balance is not exclusively centered around Vaygr's desire to ruin peoples' week on a regular basis.

Got it? Good. Keep it in mind.

As someone that runs a PvE/building server, I loved this addition. Reduces the need for one man factions. The only thing it needs in my opinion is a timer that un-docks a ship after a server configurable number of days.

A timeout would be wonderful - IMHO the point of shop docking isn't to facilitate multiple invulnerable HBs, but to help facilitate trade, and to ease a newer player's introduction to the server.

Perhaps for the timeout: charge players XX credits per hour. After player's account is depleted, docked entity no longer inherits shop's invulnerability.

Another option that might be nice is to require factions to claim the system before docking to a shop. "NO FACTION" could still dock to any shop, regardless of who owns the system.

For a timer, would the timer start as soon as you dock, or when you logout?

So... your complaint is that people use shops as "permanent bases".

With no factories, refineries, etc. Just mine and sell, and wait for shops to restock? Thats not a permanent base, thats a "I'm brand new to the server and I don't even have a planetside base set up yet, but I gotta log out" option.

Thats not PvP, thats just ganking. Go pick on someone capable of defending themselves, and leave the newbs alone long enough to actually figure out wth they're doing.

"Boo-hoo, I want to raep newbs as I see fit! Boo-hoo, being able to store ships in a safe spot other than an easily spotted, easily found homebase where I can find them without any effort put into it is broooooooooken!"

Seriously. That was what I heard.
I think this game mechanic is
    - VERY MUCH needed especially for new players
    - VERY MUCH useful and makes the game more challenging.

Also, this mechanic in place is the only viable option for pirate factions to safely store their ships without being discovered and basecamped until they are off the server.

And there ARE ways to find these spots. What are your scanners for? What are your chain drives for?
Yes, you actually need to put more effort into it than just opening the diplomacy tab and clicking on a faction name. But it's really far from impossible, AND YOU KNOW IT. Stop trying to find excuses to make your game easier.

While I agree that there needs to be some timer to auto kick people off shop docks after a while the "I don't want them docking because I want to erase their stuff because I want to" mindset needs to go and stay dead. If you just simply want to blow up their stuff and attack new players to run them off the server you need to make your own server and setup a crapton of guns around spawn and turn off sector protection. Some people would actually like to keep their stuff unless they get dumb on their own.

Only reason I'd agree to an undock timer is simply for people who dock and then abandon the server. Need to be able to get them off the shop easily.
