Created for much the same reason as shipping containers in the real world, these containers are created as a prop that makes cargo vessels, wharves, ports, and similar applications more realistic.

Purely for role-play, they can be fitted in a range of ways.

Available for download in a range of colours.

Some sample pics for you here, and the full release post here.
    Any thoughts?

They're very nice, but a bit overdesigned.

Why do they have docking ports on them?
Probably just for decoration. I mean, have the docking port line up with the docking port, it's a creative twist on things. Any thing a decoration if you're brave enough.

Cargo delivered at the gate/city project #1. Going back home.

    On another note.
My cargo pods are a bit different than yours although they are still very boxy and vertical instead of horizontal.
But I support cargo pods and love how you made yours.

can be usefull , I play on a rp server and when you trade do you want to let anyone in your ship?
Here is an option where you only need to open the container door for business , no need for people to enter all your facilities and ship...
I prefer doing business with player , more fun than using shop , they manufacture part , I ll exchange em for raw material , everybody is happy.

Ahh, good old SPCs (self powered crates.) I love the little details that make this game feel more real.I've seen JimmyJamba do the stacking crate thing before but it's a great idea especially with unlimited chain docking now. I'll need to revisit my crates at some point as well.

They're very nice, but a bit overdesigned.

Why do they have docking ports on them?
They have a docking pad on top of them (I'm considering adding some on the sides also) to allow them to be stacked in port or on a cargo vessel. They also have a downward facing camera.

I agree that you can't have anything be over-designed in a creative game like this. The more detail and greeble and intricacy, the better.

    For stacking them.
    Correct.

Thanks Nauvran. You pods and launching system is amazing I love it. How do you take that camera shot while operating the vessel? Third-person view is only possible with build mode, which shows up all the green docking boxes isn't it? Did you use a second account on another computer maybe...?

Also you can carry a crate with goods to a location and simply drop it off, like Nauvran does in the gif above. Then come back and pick up the crate later rather than having your vessel tied up by trade time. Also useful for players in different time slots.

I also love the props. I've got a few docking cranes and other details too but I haven't released any of those yet... that will wait until I've got a manufactory which will create ploppable props as downloadable parts files... watch this space!

    Oh wow that thing's huge!
But if you put like ships and loose modules inside, don't they rattle around in there or even spill through the walls when you accelerate with it?? Cargo needs to be docked inside or within storage boxes as "digital matter signatures", right?

I firmly believe you can over detail, some designs end up looking noisy or messy if you go overboard, not all flat space is bad. It's all about balance.

It's purely an RP container, sure you could stuff it with plex storage and maybe I'll even make a version that has auto filters. It is also big enough to fit small docks inside but then I would have to remove the plex door second floor feature. I will definitely make a second version with a full dock inside.

This is the ship designed to carry those crates, she needs a refit soon but she is high on my priority list, maybe I'll live-stream that this weekend. I wanted to do it last weekend but I never got around to it. The MAMs as they are called will be a key feature on several larger ships.

hehe thank you, I just used keptick 's launching design and implemented it into a smaller ship
Im so lucky I have two computers
I used my laptop to control the stuff in the ship while I parked the "camera" with a core on my desctop pc.
I just used the ingame gif recorder

I too have to fire up my old computer to pilot or issue commands as I record video with this PC. My old machine sounds like a jet taking off so I can't keep it on if I plan on doing commentary.

Yes I suppose you're right it is about balance... I've yet to see something I consider over-designed... although the goudy colours and lighting I've seen in some ships is too much for me... I like metallic with physical greeble and light trim... looks more navy and realistic to me.

Mammoth is fantastic! Love her. Also love that interface thing you do, so wish it was an actual tool.

Yeah that's what I figured. It's a shame the game doesn't have the ability to have a better third-person perspective... it seems like such a critical part of the game really...

Haha right. I have a couple of spare machines I could run it on, but that means I have to buy it a second time for those machines, right? Or can one license be applied to multiple installations?

You don't even have to uplink for single player, so no account needed. Game is still free right now anyways, so even if you did need another account, you wouldn't need to pay.

I don't think steam will let you run two versions, al

I've never noticed any issues running two characters at once from different computers. It's not really single player when you have it open.

Steam will only start 1 instance, but since the install is the same as the site, you can just navigate to the folder and start it up manually I would assume.

There is a "demo" listed on Steam, which is actually the full game. Kinda hidden, but is the only way to really allow the pre-order+Free2Play option we have.

Very nice cargo containers :D. I really want to see a space faring cargo ship that is stacked to the brim with cargo crates :P

That is why I hope we can have more in depth AI factions, I would love to have one AI faction just flying around in freighters with separate a separate faction with different combat settings spawned with them to protect the convoy. Such that the freighters flee combat while their escorts engage.

And with those freighters being filled with goodies? Yea, that'd be pretty amazing! Even more so with faction standings.

    Still work in progress:

    Conveyor class container ship
12x "DoubleChest™" 20000m³ shipping containers, rated for ~75000t cargo capacity
