Different kinds of cores that can be deployed based on what you want to build.

i noticed how a docking box (green lines) prevent you from building on them maybe a similar system to limit ships sizes based on the cores you make from recipes/atomizer.

So you make a fighter core you place it and you have a red square box you’re allowed to build within if you want a better fighter core you have to trade for it or make it like MK1 core MK2 etc.

Point is to create a classification for ships making sure people put thought into design.

What defines a class? What would this really add to the game? What con would there be in building a XXL fighter using a \'corvette\' core?

I guess this could be implmemented, with diferent class core\'s having diferent pros/cons

For example, a \"Titan\"/\"Destroyer\" Core would require more power usage, would have a speed penalty, but would boost damage/shields.

A \"corvette\" core, could have a damage bonus, at a cost of shielding.

And if a core reaches a ship mass limit for it, the penalties could be increased.

Although this would only really work well with interchangable core\'s

Although the idea is cool, the concept of Starmade it to build whatever you want and fly it around space. Putting limitations on that kinda kills the concept.

I was thinking this for a more sustainable server/game atm things can be too large cause server or game death.

Maybe this idea would be better as a mod :P

maybe implement a dimension limit on servers so that it can auto-detect ship dimensions and deny blueprint spawning if the ship exceeds those dimensions

One is not limited to making ships that fit a certain class in the game and that\'s wonderful.

your missing the point, server need limits or people (trolly wollies) would simply go from server to server crashing them all day as thats a trolls job :P

Arbitrary ship classification blocks are not a good solution to the problem of server trolls using huge ship spawns to crash servers. They are probably one of the clumsiest ways of approaching it as they do little to address the fundamental problem while simultaneously adding a lot of additional and uneccessary limitations to every one else.

The real solutions are additional admin-level controls that give admins the ability to limit BP sizes, per-faction ship counts, and other variables that work on a server-by-server basis.

That type of thing will be down to the modding community as my idea should be also.

anyway thanks for the criticism it does help refine an idea :P

Hello, spammer with a cat for a picture that I am too lazy to scroll up past your immensely massive greeting to check your name... do you have anything relevant to the thread?

    Ship Cores and Clasifications

I have noticed that everyone feels they have to compensate with a larger ship design to make up for something lacking in their life I guess. I find this rather annoying and think smaller ships or at least different ship cores are needed. I am former USNavy service member and I believe in many different ships sizes.

Here is my idea with out much change:

    1) By inspiration found at http://starmade.wikia.com/wiki/Ship_Classification , but at a more reduced numbers.

    a) Shuttles (Mass of 1-343 Blocks) Costs 1000 Credits

    Cargo/Escape pods

    b) Fighters (Mass of 250-2500 Blocks) Costs 2000 Credits

    Interceptors/Bombers/Strike

    c) Escorts (Mass of 2500-25,000 Blocks) Costs 4000 Credit

    Corvettes/Frigates/Repair ships

    d) Battleships (Mass of 25,000-250,000) Costs 8000 Credits

    Cruisers/Destroyers/Battleships

    e) Carrier (Mass of 250,000-500,000 Blocks) Costs 12000 Credits

    Carriers/Miners

    f) Titan (Mass of 500,000 Blocks or more) Costs 25000 Credits

    Titans/Planet Killers

Now with different cores you can use the same core textures and create restrictions to number of blocks and allow for a more diverse game play. This would also allow for more experienced players on a single server to spend money building larger fleets. Furthermore it give a slight RPG feel to the major PVP servers being that most have nothing left to buy or build.

One con in this is all the ship that have been made so far out there and another would be new players to a server having smaller ships. But thats something overtime anyone would solve.

Finally this would also challenge ship designers like myself to have a limit that we must overcome and create ships that would outpreform others not by mass but by design. Further limitaions may be create Military and Civilian Cores that are limited to blocks allowed. for example a military ship isnt allowed salvage cannons and a civilian ship can only have a weapon turret of a certain block size.

Wouldn\'t care if the game auto-classifies based on mass, but don\'t make people have to choose between different cores before they can design their ship. Most of my ships, and I\'m by far not the only one, design a ship before they know how big they want it to be.

Different cores with different stat boosts and size limitations just forces ship configurations into a box, literally.
