Shields per second bug

So while setting up the shield system on my latest project (The SMS Infinity), I noticed that shield blocks placed 1 by 1 correspond to an equivalent increase in shields per second (i.e., 10 blocks placed 1 by 1 equals to an additional 10 shields per second). However, when I place 10 shield blocks in advanced build mode, the increase in s/sec is not equivalent to the increase in blocks. In this case, there is a difference of about 4. By the time I reached approximately 400,000 shield blocks, I only had 70,000 shields per second.

I am assuming this is a bug, although this may be due to a lag issue. Is there any way to solve this issue or do I need a better computer?

You, sir, are experiencing something called diminishing returns, in which you receive less benefit per unit of something added (Shield blocks, in this case) for each consecutive unit added.

This can be easily observed in the placement of the very first 2 shield blocks on any ship - the first one takes your shields per second from 0/sec (unshielded) to 111/sec. However, the very next block merely increases shields per second to 158/sec, an increase of 47/sec, less than half of the first increase. See how the returns are diminishing?

And to answer the main point/question of this thread, your assumption that this is a bug is, in fact, incorrect. This is an intended gameplay feature which aids in the fight against gigantism (everyone wanting to build large ships) by making it harder and harder to reach higher stats as the stats increase.

Err, yes, yes I can. You too can have your very own proof by replicating the evidence I mention in my post above!

Place one shield block, observe that it adds 111/sec to your shields per second. Place a second, watch as it adds merely 47/sec. Continue further if you wish for more validation.

Other than \"see for yourself\", there is really very little to be said to confirm this that I have not already said. Other blocks in the game follow different mechanics, in fact, power tanks become more effective as the number of blocks increases, but shields have diminishing returns.

If you meant that I should confirm my third paragraph, in which I say this is in place to fight gigantism, then I cannot - that is more of an opinion, based on hearsay, etc.

    There\'s nothing to confirm - it\'s a fact.

In other news power blocks don\'t benefit from dimension bonuses after 1 mil regen.

    Read up on game mechanics.
