I\'m not sure why your struggling? I find turrets far easier to make that ships, since they have no immediate need for power, shields or engines!
If your stuck for design ideas, have a look at modern miltiary offerings and get a feel for doing it yourself. If your having technical issues (like getting them working/etc) then we\'re happy to help!
I find turrets to be difficult because of the size they are... small. Leaves me little room for detail when i want to make decently powerful turrets for my ships.
For reference, my biggest production ship is only 67m long. So the limited size is my own doing.

The current docking mechanics doesnt leave much room to work with for constructing semi-traditional battleship stlye turrets.
Though I must confess, my understanding of turret mechanics is limited. Are shields and power necessary at all?
Shields are needed on the turret itself. At least one power block is needed on the turret for those shields to actually work. The AMCs can take power directly from the ship the turret is docked on, but multiple turrets that don\'t have enough of their own power generation can drain a ship\'s power pretty quickly if it has poor power generation.
I tend to build my turrets to have just enough power generation that the recharge is greater than the drain per shot. Also, power tanks on turrets are only necessary if the AMC array(s) drain more power in one shot than is stored in the turret.
