How cool would it be if you and your friends could all sit down in front of the ship's various monitors Star-Trek style?
Currently, when you enter the ship core, your character is folded neatly and packed inside a box, in which he can then teleport to other camera boxes to get a different perspective on the ship. That's nice, and it should definitely be a feature, but we should also have actual chairs, as seen in the game's trailer. The seats would come in various colors of half-block, and your character will be visible sitting on top of it. If you take damage while sitting down, you will be ejected from the seat.

The way it would work is that a chair would be connected to a module the same way effect modules are, and then the person in that particular seat would have control over that specific module. So, if you want a seat to be the Captain's/Pilot's chair, all you have to do is connect it to the core, and it grants this person normal piloting and building privileges. Also, if somebody is in the core, another person cannot get in the seat connected to the core, the same rule applying to other modules.

This makes it so people who are happy with the current "get smashed into the ship core" system are able to do what they want, while people who enjoy creating these highly detailed bridges can give the bridge a purpose.

Now, since chairs will allow ships to facilitate a crew, not everybody should be able to have building privileges at once; that could cause some unwanted problems, a pretty obvious one being a crew member who isn't happy with the ship's leadership going rogue and deleting the core systems of the ship. To solve this, only people in control of a build block and/or the core may edit the ship.

Now, to accompany these chairs, we would then have the need for a substitute camera block. Well, I have the solution; monitors. You would simply connect your existing camera blocks to a monitor, and it will display the image.

hit O while looking at a block and you'll sit down :) Not perfect, but it'll more than suffice while cool things like shipyards come out :p

Yeah, for a simple seat, simply drop a wedge and press O at it and you'll sit down in it quite neatly.

Although 'O' works for RP'ing, it doesn't allow control of the ship, which is what is wanted by chairs.

I honestly don't think seats should be used for control. I think a computer should be used for control and simply placed in front of a seat.

We do need an actual chair though. Sitting on wedges works but looks awkward.

Another thing: Dave sits too low at a 1m high desk and everyone looks five years old. Either we need desk chairs that can raise and lower with 'R' or we need lower blocks for tables. Sitting at chairs and tables made of hull blocks seems rather makeshift. It works for now but needs to be improved eventually.

Yeah, we definitely need more furniture or decorative blocks. Actualy, there's never enough of them. Some from my personal wishlist:

Seats and chairs - at least as the decoration. Vedges are cool when it comes to building large seats like captain's, but we need proper sitting device spice up our habitation cells. Some simple beds would be awesome too (with ability to stack them up).

Sloper/wedge decoration blocks - am I the only one who desperately wishes for sloped computer screens or keyboards? We already have wedge blocks, it's just about the texture.

Handrails - solid 2d sprites with handrail texture that can placed on the edges of the block should do the work.

Stairs - some player scalable stairs, please?

    All of these are must-haves.

    I say nope to this.

Also, why do I get the feeling whoever flagged this as "planned" didn't read it very carefully?

I've posted this on another thread, but thought it would be better in a chair focused thread.

Just having an actually functional chair would be sweet. Maybe a universal chair that can be connected to any computer to produce a UI fitting for the particular computer. This would then allow for a truly functional and logical crew. I'd go so far as to move the AI module functions into the chair, so you can have specialised AI controlling individual computers or the core to control everything.
