Scenario:
You're a mechanic working on a large interstellar colony ship when you drop out of hyperspace and are immediately swarmed by tiny fighter drones. Several fighters are launched to be quickly mowed down by the drones, and the ship is pelted. The turrets have a slightly better chance and wear down the swarm, but not before the ship's systems go critical.
A handful of other survivors manage to make it to escape pod. You manage to hop into a Storage pod, and release it into space. Floating along like so much other debris, you go unnoticed, while many of the escape pods are blasted to smithereens.
One lone pilot launches one of the last remaining fighters and takes out the remaining drones single-handedly before succumbing and crash landing on a nearby planet. Your ship blows up, blowing you clear of the blast area.
With what resources you have on your little cargo pod, you manage to get a rudimentary propulsion system to work. As you start to cautiously float back toward the debris, you discover that there isn't much left, but you do find the remains of one fighter floating in space, damaged beyond repair.
