Scanners and Shops

I have not been able to locate a shop, beyond my spawn, to save my life. I have a scanner, and 10 antennae, but have flown through dozens of systems looking for a shop to visit. Nada.

I do not know what the scanner is supposed to do, I have noticed no difference in my navigation panel or galactic/system map after using. Perhaps I am doing something wrong.

How many shops are available? I have previously found three in a system, but not since the latest update. Is there a way to predict where to look for one - asteroid belt, planetary orbits, etc?

Anyone else having the same problem, or is it just me?

Shop density (and other things) seem to fluctuate wildly between updates. You can change the density per sector in the configs.

As for your question I can't answer that, sorry.

What you can do is press P and look for the shops in the galaxy map. It should display all shops in the sector that way as long as you are not in Void Sectors.

What you can do is press P and look for the shops in the galaxy map. It should display all shops in the sector that way as long as you are not in Void Sectors.

I have found in this (.1845) and the last two updates that shops are not showing up in the galaxy map. I would find one using Navigation, fly to it, and it would still not display on the map.

This is why I bought a scanner and antennae. However, I do not know if it is working, since when I use it nothing on the map or Navigation changes.

currently scanners are only for finding other players.

hopefully they make them for map making since right now they are pretty useless

Scanners don't show shops.

Scanners reveal what sectors other nearby ships are in.

The only way to locate a shop is buy discovering them through travel. It seems rather counter-productive for the Trade Guild to make their shops harder to find than an abandoned space station, but apparently they're not in it to make money.

I looked in the config, and my shop setting was at 0.01%. The entry states normal is 0.08% (I think I recall that correctly). I reset it to the normal value, and now have shops. Too many, I think, but I have not explored much as there are three near spawn. May tweak some more, but the low setting was too low, it seems.

And, I did not find them on the galactic map. They still did not show on that map until I had closed to their position. Strange that stations show but not shops. Any reason for that?

The normal was 0.08% several updates ago. The config just didn't have its comments updated.
