I recently added two large thruster pods to the front of a largish ship that i built, and it occured to me that if they could rotate opposite to the ships steering direction (maybe docked with a special thruster docking module) that would add greater maneuverability to larger (longer) ships. They wouldnt need a very large travel arc to be effective. Just a suggestion.
