After seeing how repair beams work, I was disappointed to find that they could only repair blocks that were damaged, but not destroyed. Generally, if a ship takes a hit, a lot of blocks could be completely destroyed, which would make repair beams almost useless.
Then I had an idea; what if you could use repair beams to repair damage to a ship from its schematic? It would depend on there being a schematic saved of the ship being repaired, or else it would work like it does currently. It would also require that the game have some way of telling if a schematic is linked to a ship or not.
However, if a ship does have a schematic saved of it, the repair beam could be used to restore destroyed blocks, given enough power, time, and possibly materials available (if it needs that much balancing). This would make repair beams able to have more use, other than for extremely situational spot repairs.
