Really Low FPS

I have a I5-4670k with a GTX 780 and 8GB of corsair vengenace RAM and im only getting 30-40FPS on just the basic settings in the launcher. Anyone have any fixes for this? Im also on windows 8.1 with drivers 337.88

What about your java? is it up to date and are you using the latest java runtime environment (version 8)? Try allocating more memory to starmade too, you can change that in the launcher.
I'm getting 200 fps near big ships with a gtx 670/i5 3570K although i'm not using the new shadows. Try turning off shadows since it's very demanding. All of my other settings are on max.

yeah turning off shadows gave me well over 300 fps
