PROJECT: PATRIARCH is the name given to the construction of the Union of Intergalactic States' second battleship, the first being the Everest-class built by Trinova Technologies. The battleship, aptly named the Patriarch-class, is 3.75km long (12,303ft), and would, if constructed, be the largest ship I've ever undertaken, seven times as long as the Adamant-class Battlecruiser.

The vessel's design is as the majority of my ships are - Imperial. Large, wedge-shaped, and (hopefully) bristling with weaponry, this time being reminiscent of the Eclipse and Eclipse-II Star Dreadnoughts, minus the ironically pointless pointy bit at the bow, and the superlaser that would, post-weapons update, be tactically useless. Its gargantuan size, and jet black hull serves as a psychological terror to those that behold it.

This vessel is planned now and is to be built in anticipation of the weapons overhaul. As that is, as is with all Starmade updates, a longer wait than it should be, I have time to take suggestions as the ship progresses. Inform me of your thoughts on the ship, and answer the poll. Your assistance at this time is much appreciated.

The plans of the Patriarch-class Battleship.

Option chosen:[Yes, but proceed with an alternative design plan]

Alternate suggestion: Needs to be more Arca shaped. Other than that, cool.

At that scale you are probably looking at a ship in the 100-500 million block range depending on density and width. Unless your "PC" is actually a server with 60+ gigs of RAM, this project will be a total failure before it starts. Even if you build it, you will never be allowed to upload it to any servers... so not really a battleship if it can't be deployed anywhere to do battle. I would instead suggest scaling it back to about 500k mass, since this is the current standard of what most servers allow.

FYI: This is the reason why Trinova had to replace the Everest with the smaller McKennely as their primary heavy warship.

    Suggestion noted, despite the over-exaggeration.

I think you should do it but personally I would not because I feel like the game is not really worth investing so much time in at this moment in time.

I voted no because Titanmade is dull, excessively ostentatious and wasteful. Just like the ever growing size of SUVs and other unnecessary vehicles has made roads worse, the increase in vessel size has also made servers worse as a result. Most entertaining and meaningful combat in starmade occured at below 500k under power 1.0. Often it was far below that. Since 2.0 is too dysfunctional currently to see a norm or trends in vessel scaling it's too early to tell just what a good server vessel limit will look like but I am mostly certain it would be well below 500k if not half that.

If your goal is to create something that is strictly a display piece, something that would just sit on a build server never to see action and it's only goal was to be a monument to the builder's efforts and aesthetic vision, than hey, more power to you.

personally this ship would propably be like 5-10 times too big for me to even consider flying it. Would be a nice decorative accessoire for a station though, even if it would lag most client's PCs trying to take a look at it :p

I'm in favor of a scaled down version. The game is simply not ready for the original size, and I doubt it ever will (or should) be. I agree with NaStral that a full scale variant could only serve as a display piece for those who have the computer strength to render it, otherwise I strongly recommend a scaled-down version that limits the end mass to 1M or below to make actual deployment viable. Piloting anything past 500K mass (in my opinion, even above 100K) without serious investment in turning speed chambers is unenjoyable and a pain in the a$$. Since it isn't from the ground up built as a "meta" shape, I expect it to be underperforming in PvP situations anyway, only relying on sheer block counts, and more used as display of power than an actual war asset.

Lets be honest here, as awesome as it sounds, you will never finish this ship. First starmade cant handle this shipsize, at all. Second Unless you just want a blank and boring hull with a few rooms in it, it will tke ages to complete, you will certainly loose interest.
I have seen lots of people since i joined that wanted to start multi Kilometer ships Projects, only a hand full succeded.
If you really want this ship ingame,, scale it down to like 400-600 meters, the nature of a wegde desing will give you still plenty of internal room to work with.
Look at this ship, pretty large, right? This is only 750 meters, and it was a pain to do and ist not nearly finished.

I would scale it down to, say, 400-600m, had I not already been in possession of a hull in that size range (the Adamant-class Battlecruiser).

cool in theory, useless in practice. have dealt with a handful of these size ships in the past and *all* have crashed servers and/or been rendered nonfunctional by their own lag.

    Both interesting and agreeable analyses.

There is one possible actual use for such a beastly sized ship, which is pretty much what the Supremacy was in The Last Jedi: a fleet carrier. With the new chamber mechanics, investing in a ship that has most of its chamber capacity invested in a jump drive (recommend range primary, charge speed secondary because if you use both you'll need also power efficiency) and has the ability to bring several mainline combat vessels across the galaxy in a relatively short time, letting you focus on defensive/mobility chambers on the smaller vessels instead of jump drives, can possibly make sense for a larger faction, especially if their headquarters/staging grounds are far away from the designated target (Unknown Region, wink-wink)
Such a vessel would not require spinal mounted weaponry, only long-range support fire turrets, and moderate shielding, as it would NOT engage the enemy directly, acting only as a carrier and command center that would use its superior jump drive to get out if it becomes targeted.
If the astrotech beams get reworked and it is possible to restore actual blocks on a ship with them, such a fleet carrier can become an efficient mobile base, servicing the frontline combat vessels far from homebase.

Perhaps. Though, sadly, the ship's gargantuan size would still mean it would not be permitted on servers. In order to get it on a server, it'd have to scaled down to the point wherein the ships it would realistically be able to ferry from one front to the next would be too small to be effective in combat, and the fleet it could bring would be relying on Patriarch for protection it would not realistically be able to provide, given its chamber investment. A pity, really. In the further future, perhaps, Patriarch would serve a similar purpose to your suggestion other than feeding my e-peen.
