[DOUBLEPOST=1418409482,1418406368][/DOUBLEPOST]I resolved this by replacing both the OpenAL64 and OpenAL32 dll files found in windir\system32 & windir\SysWOW64 with those found in the games folder. ( .\StarMade\StarMade\native\windows )
Decided to try this seeing the process was running in 32bit mode :p
The "sound problem" button in the game-menu only mentioned OpenAL64.
The existing files I found there were signed with a cert from Creativelabs. Probably some left over from another game/driver installation.
Sidenote, just removing those files from the system32/SysWOW64 also solved the issue. I didnt even had to copy the files from the game folder any more. But, keep reading
Other programs might depend on them, so I can't really recommend that move, copy them and overwrite them both from the starmade folder.
