In addition, as part of the navigation system, a Relational Artificial Horizon would be nice as well. This would be similar to the AH you find on aircraft, but it displays your ship\'s attitude in relation to your target. If you have no target, then it defaults to first, the avergate horizon of the solar system, or the planet if your within a planet\'s field. This could also include an auto leveling button which, when pressed, adjusts your ships flight plane to match your selected targets flight plane. This would be especially usefull for docking with space stations or landing on planets. The cumpas on the AH would work differant than an aircraft\'s cumpas in that it would use degrees, but it reads degrees around your ship, so if your looking at say a heading of 000 then your pointed at your target where as a heading of 180 means your target is behind you and if your moving forward, your moving away from your target. A heading of 90 would mean your target is directly to the right fo your ship while 270 means your target is directly to the left of your ship.
I think that this would be a great navigational aid and provide a little more information as to your targets location and attitude in relation to your ship besides just the side arrows which don\'t tell you anythign other than the item is out of your view.
If the vessel is mounted as a turret, then the AH shows attitude in relation to the parent ship. So a heading 000 is always forward and 180 is always aft as the relational target would always be the parent ship. A targeting icon could be displayed on the ball to show the turrets cuttent selected target in relation to the parent. This would also help with gunner coordination on ships with multiple gunners in situations where the turrets are manned by other players and coordinating between the gunners and the pilot.
I have already had situations where there we have had difficulty knowing if I have my turret pointing forward or not as the placement of the turret on some of our ships results in not much of the ship being visible to the gunner when in the turret.
