Okay, this may be controversial, but with how we now have slabs that work off the base cube block, what if we expanded to all hull/armor/etc shapes?

As in, you manufacture a Standard Red Armor block, a cube, and then have sliders that let you turn it into wedges, heptas, etc?

If all given shapes of any given type of armor have the same stats, then they are effectively just cosmetic variations of each other. A cube and a wedge are exactly the same as far as anything actually relating to how the ship functions is concerned, so why not just make them all one block so that its easier to wedge a hull?

No more having to make half a dozen separate hull manufacturing runs, just make a single run of hulls and use them for whatever shaped pieces you need.

Yes. Yes. Yes. PLEASE. I'm more than sick of basicly having to do 5 times the work just to get all those tiny bits manufactured, like, for example, I need 1 green hardened hull corner I need to do nearly all the crafting process again.

Meh, I'd be happy with just the other shapes only taking fullblocks in shipyards/blueprints, kinda like slabs do.

And it should be possible to apply and remove paint in build mode. Now that the resource cost of armor doesn't depend on its color anymore we could just produce grey hull/armor blocks and paint them later.

I would prefer that instead of sliders, all the different variations (By that, I mean base wedge, corner, tetra and hepta) show up in the hotbar when selecting them, then in Adv. build mode, you can select a level of alteration. For wedges, the heights of the front/back, etc. etc. There will be one problem with this, it will increase the block memory footprint significantly, we can keep the different IDs for the types, but the alterations could be problematic, and could possibly force the memory count to up to 4Mb, which I've heard Schine might be willing to do, if the need arises.

Overall, this will allow SO many more shapes that people can do with ships, curves can be much smoother, and overall allow more creativity with the shapes/looks of ships.

Best idea I seen since I been on these boards. It makes perfect sense also since they use a multi stack anyways.

It would open a lot of creativity if we did that...and i like that idea but at the same time the issue of block memory is going to be a problem. Im on a old computer and starmade as is lags whenever im near the station i built. (Planets? You mean those sectors that make me stop motion?) So making each block take more memory could make the game unplayable for some...overall good idea but i feel the need to point that out to be sure.

Now as for this i agree having to recraft everything just to get a wedge is a bit BS...what id say is one crafting should give you the whole multislot however all the values in the slot would be shared. So you done have 10 of each block you have 50 of ANY block. That would also make loot drops less taxing since you would get X number of Y colored Z type of hull. Instead of individual pieces of each color.

Yes and you could custom your ride with Vinyls and decals too like a racing game.

Agreed. I believe that when game mechanics and balance are not at issue; Fun should sway the vote. Having a variety of armour choices is fun but going though unnecessary tedium is not. Why not allow the shape to be defined when placing a block (instead of when manufacturing it).

I was about to make my own thread about making all hull block shapes virtual. Until i spotted that Edymnion already made one over a year ago!

Why did this thread die a silent death? The idea is briliant get this in the game right now!

Just discovered this, THE GAME TOTALLY NEEDS THIS! Since the production ratio is 1:1 for all of the block variants, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't get implemented.

Yes. And we need a bajillion other shapes to select from too. So I can get the blocks on that one station to fit right.
