Old shields.

    I'd like to see the old sheild system come back. The new one is just totally rubish. It discourages people from making large ships.

    Or me anyway. I make a large ship, Slap a lot...and I mean a lot of shields on it... a few tiny ships can take down the shields and I now have the issue of having random holes in a giant ship that could take up to or more of an hour to find and fix these holes. It's just annoying and a really silly change.



    I'm sure I'm not the only one that hates this. It's made me want to not even build big ships because I know they'll just get trashed in seconds.

    If you have the same feeling about this please please comment and give your views.

    Maybe we can actually get this stupid change undone.

    i know the feel i\'m currently building a ship i started it before the shield change and one of the generators that i made first was a shield generator. beforee the update it had 6476268 s/sec of shield regen and now it has around 6007 s/sec. and now i need to have a fighter around to destroy pirates

    Yeah It\'s shields are just pathetic now, You might as well not even use them and just replace them with weapons

    Define alot of shields? People have been showing off shield capacity in the millions after the change, are you slapping on enough of them? So I shall ask... are you building big enough?

    Yes but it\'s not so much the capacity. It\'s the regen...Damage is easy to do. One of my fighers can take down 60k shields in maybe 40 seconds...but the regen is just to low I\'d rather it be changed to the old style...

    Ok so let me get this straight...



    You have a ton of shields, and can do tons of damage, but you can\'t kill pirates even though a tiny ship with much less shielding and much less damage can?



    You are doing something majorly wrong.

    60k shields in 40seconds is 1.5k DPS. A ship with 60,000 mass should have atleast 20% of its mass, or 12,000 mass as shield units, as this is the only real defense. This allows for 120,000 shield units, which offers 1,962,743, or just under 2 million shield capasity and 26,666 recharge. At 1.5k dps, it would take the vessel 1308.5 second, or 21 minutes and 48.5 seconds to drop those shields.

    Are you honestly afraid of these fighters?

    Both sides of this argument have been completely over-exagerating this whole topic. Tell me when you have been in an actual pvp fight and had a small ship destroying your capital? The question has been raised before yet no one has come forward stating that they have lost in one of these massive ships. Don\'t get me wrong however, I do understand this nerf is simply too much, and would like it to be tweaked a bit more.

    I think the major problem is with rockets destroying all blocks within it\'s radius, regardless of how thick, or how many blocks it\'s affecting. I wouldn\'t be surprised if this was changed sometime in the future, yet as it\'s still alpha there is still a lot of tweaking to go.

    For the time being why not think of ways around it? For my titan ship I have two massive arms running the length of the ship as canons. What I\'ve decided to do now is remove them and make them as turrets. This way they will be a near 360 degree firing range, will be incredibly powerful, have a shotgun affect to counter terrible aiming, and will also act as a second layer of armour (aka shields) to get through.

    Another option which I hope to implement is AI ships. As I\'ve heard you are able to assign docking bays to a key on your hotbar when you fly. If I have AI drones attached to these assigned docking bays, I could release these AI fighters into the fight to further distract the aggressors whilst i quickly finish them off before they get through my main shields. This is of course if any of this is possible.

    I\'ve managed to get 15,000/s on a ship i threw up in about an hour and it\'s both not a large ship and has a lot of air still left that i\'m tossing shields at.

    a small boat pack with high explosive material and dry dock a ship for months (aka. USS Cole). Large ship need escorts ship, it you want one you need them. Plus it impacts server if everyone has giga ships.

    It still stops recharging when shot, which is the complaint Hatter has.

    Yes...This is more or less my issue. And the recharge nerf anyway. Both are not needed to be THIS weak. it\'s just sad

    New shields are much better, at least there is no invinsible ships anymore and hardened blocks are useful

    Yeah hardened hull is a pisstake.... I can slap a cannon down that does 400 per shot in a few seconds with a meh size reactor...Hard hull is usless and shields are getting just as usless :/

    While building a Jammer Cruiser (target mass 1,250) to mostly sneak up and give large ships(target mass 25,000+) a fright but net show that I can\'t do much damage. I later realized I had seven turrets that did 7.7k (611.4-DMG, 79.4-RoF) DPS, which makes 54k DPS while only a third into the build(525 mass). A vessel that is 25,000 Mass and 35% of it is dedicated to just shields would have 87,500 shield units. This would allow for 1.6 million shield capacity. If I managed to attack this ship from a blind spot, the ships shields would drop in 30 seconds, by the time I am done I would guess my damage would be close to twice the current rate as I manipulate the weapon allocations.



    While I do not suggest or wish for the shield regen to return back to what it once was, I would like to request that the shield capacity be drastically increased for vessels with alot of shield despensers. Killing a vessel 20 times my size in 30 seconds (let alone 15 or less) should be looked into.

    Yes cause nothing says fun like letting the computer play the game for you

    Turrets should be a feature you can add to your ship not a requirement.

    Really though the shields didn\'t need Nerfed this much, they needed to be lower shield power a bit and hulls raised a bit and it would have been just fine.
