Old crafting style? New one sucks...

Now before you pick up your torches and pickforks, I understand that the game is in alpha stage, and that certain things may be not perfect just yet. I also appreciate what the developers are doing with it, they are doing a good job and clearly care about the game and its growing fanbase.

But am I the only one who doesn't like the current crafting system? It seems like it was a step back. Old crafting ment you could get your stuff (for example a Yhole Nucleus = 1 Science bottle and 1 Yhole, simples) and put it in a factory on a planet somewhere. Now? I need 5000 of something to make 1 of something? Out of ORE?

It is hard enough getting over 50 Plexdoors from 1 shop without getting 5000, I don't even have that many hulls and I collect them. So I'm hoping the new recipe mechanic is going to be included with the old crafting, the new mec's point being to make the raw parts for the crafting.

Who is with me on this? And who wants me to just suck it up and deal with it? Inb4 everyone says the latter

You can adjust the number of blocks required for a recipe in your server.cfg settings file. The current crafting system is quite adequate, in my opinion, especially since cash isn\'t that hard to come by. If a server has a reasonable cost for recipes, I can typically manufacture blocks for profit.

It\'s supposed to be hard to manufacture these items. Helps promote trading, industry, and so forth.

Seeing as this will likely stay a config even if Schema sets it to default 500, any server owner could change it to 10 or 15000 if they wanted to. What difference would it make then?

It was kind of hard enough making the scheemadine advanced or whatever it is called without people fragging your kit, but now it is just ridiculous. If you have the recipe, no one else does. And now you only need one block that is easily replaced, if anything it is a lot easier yet more unfair. And yes I mean multiplayer.

The update that brought us the new recipe system actually is better. Believe it or not, you can actually achieve 10000 of anything (my server\'s default) without too much hassle but you need to adapt your play style. I produce over a million blocks every hour to be either sold or transformed into recipes to be sold or distributed in return for parts to expand my production. My base, as a result, is a safe haven for every pilot on the server (hangars big enough for most light vessels). The new factory system allows one machine system to produce whatever I want. I only need to plug it in. I even have \"wafers\" of enhancers that I can use to overclock a production. Was all of this hard to set up? Yes and No. It was hard to get the materials (trading is a bugger becasue of trust issues) and a group of raiders that loved me all too much... but I did it. Its not immpossible, my system is even the biggest. There are older players who have MASSIVE systems that can make ANYTHING even ores (before the update it was harder).

My arguement is that the new factory systems is not a step back but a step forward. Here is basically how I did it.

A great way to start up is to begin by getting absurd amounts of items from \"dead\" ships. Scavanging after battles or shadowing a larger ship can allow you to obtaion quite a few of everything. Stations are great but should be a last resort as they have little to no useful blocks other than hull (which is practically useless, but that is a different debate.) and a few power blocks.

You can also (as of the most recent full update) increase your money by sinking about 100000 credits into buying a coarsing recipe for ores. one L2 makes 10000 L1 which sells for 1000x the profit. this can inflate your cash reserves if you are getting a bit low.

The darkest and least recommended method is using \"resource ships\" to increase your supplies in exchange for credits. This is the ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT OF CHEAP METHODS. This is only to be used in dire circumstances. I won\'t really go into this... I hate this method sooo much...

Its easy I tell you. I have yet to experiment with cubatoms as I am not sure whether or not they are here to stay but Factories are an investment that you NEED to make if you are seriously into a server.
