    I love the transparent water, but im not sure if im liking water being... white?

    maybe its a bug involed in making it transparent, or maybe its the new norm, maybe ill get used to it.... their goes my blue motif

    So I\'ve tried the new texture pack out, and I gotta say I\'m not a fan. I liked the framed lights, they look a lot more like lights rather than glowing extranious squares, but that\'s about it.

    First of all, everything\'s too dark and blueish. When I put a white hull on my ship, I\'d very much like it to be white, not blue. The same goes for the black hulls; they\'re not black anymore, just darker blue. My once brown ship is now gold. On top of that, the red planet I\'ve settled on is now a washed-out maroon planet. The colors are all off and what color there is looks rather lackluster.

    Another thing that I\'m really not liking is the hardened hull texture. The old texture, while rather simple, did the job better. It looked like an armored box, and thus implied its purpose better (as an armored block). The new texture, on the other hand looks like carvings on the wall of a lost Aztec temple. While it is definitely more seamless than the old texture, the seamed look gave ships with the old texture a more structured look. This new texture, on the other hand, makes ships look like giant floating carved stones.



    I know you were trying to make the game look \"darker\" or whatever, but I think you really overshot that. I think you ought to turn back whatever filter you used on the old texture file a little bit.

    Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

    Cal: The lighting job and some stuff schema is working on will fix water so it absorbs light from light sources, IE blue for blue water, etc..

    Noodle: Great feedback, I was actually pretty sure no-body ever used white hulls since without bloom they were so bright I had to get new eyeballs. We\'ve also gotten a bunch of comments on the hardened hull texture, I\'ll be working on that.

    If you want to replace the curret texture pack with the old one, go to StarMade\\data\\textures\\block and replace t000.png and t001.png with ones from the last version (you should have them backed up in backup-StarMade-0.092768-20130506_001954.zip).

    Otherwise, just take these two and save them into StarMade\\data\\textures\\block:

    I really can\'t say I like this. In fact it\'s kind of schizophrenic, isn\'t it? \"Have a black that\'s blacker than the blackest night! White that will make your eyes bleed! Gray! ... Colors? Who the hell makes their ships colorful! Here\'s something that kind of looks like the color, I guess.\"

    I kind of like how the black and white look, but the colors are way too desaturated to be used in anything. Red looks pink and ugly, yellow is even worse, it looks like it\'s green from afar, blue and violet look identical, gray still doesn\'t look very gray...

    I guess I preferred the old, vibrant style a lot more. Maybe it\'s the actual texture, the \"plate\" looking things? It\'s very hard to see it on the white ones, too, making them appear smooth. In general, I\'m with Omni on this one.

    I do belejve that if you made each block a picture of a different facial expression of yours then we\'d stop complaining and embraced the empathy!
    I did like the look of those blue computer screens, these new ones look kind of steam punky? Maybe even try to make the blue screen look almost like a hologram? I just don\'t see two knobs controlling each computer

    I took the current versions of the textures and made some alternates. I don\'t mean to step on Beetlebear\'s toes, these are just slight modifications of his already excellent work to have a slightly different aesthetic and hopefully help in the process of finding the right color balance.

    First, this is a version that only does two things: It removes the blue from the grey hulls while making them slightly brighter, and tones down the white hulls some so hopefully your eyes will bleed a little less.

    Second, a version which is a little more aggressive in its changes. It makes the colored hulls brighter and more vivid, tones down the white slightly more and makes the black hulls slightly brighter. It also tones down the lava, because last time I saw lava ingame with the new textures I wasn\'t sure if it was a plex light or not. I adjusted the hues of Purple and Blue to be more distinguishable from each other, and brightened Yellow enough to stick out compared to Orange/Brown. I also made sure the red was RED, removing the slight pink hue to it.

    As a side note, these don\'t actually completely remove the blue. They remove 80% of the blue from the grey hulls. I imagine most of you would have never noticed, though. The very subtle blue tint should retain some of the mood that tint was intended to add while still making the hulls look grey. Getting the amount of blue tint on something like that right can be very difficult.

    Also, though I applied some filters in Photoshop, the textures are still all Beetlebear\'s, even the modified ones. He can feel free to take them, use them in any way he wants, including just take them and use them directly. But in his place, I\'d probably feel the need to do it my way. ;)

    If nothing else, hopefully these textures can provide something for people to use while they wait for Beetlebear to work his magic. Oh, and if anyone would be willing to take some screenshots using these, I\'d love to see how things look. :)

    I like Omni\'s but the hardened hulls are sort of indistinguishable from the non-hardened unless you are up close.

    With beetlebear\'s textures everything looks sort drab and just gray all over on the station, and for my ship i would have to make the whole thing white with gray highlights to get it to look anything like a light gray ship.

    That new hardened hull texture... so sexy looking. They\'re already making- nevermind.

    In any case, a mixture of the best of all worlds currently, more or less. This sheet has all the textures of the above sheet from Beetle including the awesome hardened hulls, with the same color modifications from mine before, and as many placeholders as possible replaced with the textures that are currently in the game slightly brightened to match the color of the other new textures on Beetle\'s sheet. The grey is now pure grey with no blue whatsoever, because that\'s what Beetle went with. :) (Rather than the variation of ~10 RGB leaning toward a slightly blue tint in my first two sheets.)



    Same as before, this texture sheet is free for Beetle\'s use in any way he likes, though once we get this color balance sorted, I\'m sure he can outdo these simple color edits I\'ve made. :)

    Based on Omni\'s, mine and suggestions in chat, here is what I have as far as colors:

    The white shows up under light and in dark, but still just looks like a shinier gray or metal so I\'ll revisit that later.

    Can we have industrial components (capacitors, flux coils, etc) back to their original colors? While the block textures look pretty good, I felt that the bright colors on components was fitting. Right now they all look moderately terrible, tbh.

    I keep changing them back to lighter colors and forget to give schema the files.

    I\'m actually going to be redoing all of them in higher resolutions, all of the sprites, since they don\'t fit in the current no-bleed zone of the texture.

    They\'re literally the same, hull color wise save for the purple hull that is darker and balancing on the grey and white blocks that omni even said he had some trouble getting right.

    Either way, I\'m working on everything else for the time being.
