Now that the new stations are in, a question about future content

Everyone on my server has been holding back on doing any exploration of the new galaxy until the new space stations were added. Now that they're here, we're all excited about digging into this major aspect of the game. What future content that is planned will require a wipe of current servers in order to introduce it, and/or what content will not show up in sectors that are previously explored?

I've always hoped, for example, that when AI creatures are added to planets they will just start spawning whenever the sector is loaded, regardless of whether it has been previously explored or not.
