I think that an item (well, a pair) of items should be added. Maybe called the "ship retriever".
The first of the two items goes in the ship, possibly integrated into Bobby AI. This is a sort of "homing beacon" for the second item, but it also drives the ship back to place. The second item would be one that you place later, lets say after you die. Upon activating the second item, the AI inside the ship will activate and proceed to drive itself to your location.
