A type of armor you would place on large ships as a defensive measure against powerful weapons. However it would have a down side of excessive mass.

    255 HP
    225% armor

Four times the mass of a normal block.

225% armour means it's healing for 125% of damage taken.
    Just so you know.

Come to think of it, I do need Hyper-Lineated-Crystal Armor for my Tholian ships:
    6000 HP
    99.44% Armor

I'm joking of course (but not really...) But JUST FOR ME -- no else gets them!

Who else remembers when you could go over 100% armor with Ion and gain shields when shot? Because that's essentially what this armor block would do.

a 255, 99% armor block would have somewhere along the lines of 25,000 EHP. Seeing as this block would probably be expensive to produce, it would mainly be viable for only smaller ships, which would make them near-impossible to kill with another small ship.

Overall, this sounds like a bad and obnoxious idea. People shouldn't be able to coat their ship in what amounts to faction modules.

Don't worry OP. When the HP system comes in armor won't be worthless anymore. SOON™

Not to hijack your thread, but maybe armor values on stations should be automatically increased. So non-homebase-protected stations have a shot of surviving. Obviously not to indestructible levels like 100% or above, but something far beefier than normal armor block values on ships. Or station specific armor, I dunno if its worth taking up item IDs though.

That block would work better on fighters, since it's easier to get higher thrust/weight ratios at that size. You'd get super tanky fighters and super tanky capital ships.

Oh, and that's assuming that you fixed that 225% number to make it realistic.
