Necessary aesthetics for ships?

Well technically, Aesthetics aren't *necessary* for functional ships, but I digress.

So I want to embark on building an actual ship with aesthetics. I can work a bit with the external parts but the internals are completely lost on me.

I want to compile a list of what necessary components are *required*. Obviously things like an engine room, core room, crew quarters, etc.

What do you consider necessary when adding rooms to your ships?

a general ship should include the following:

    1. Core Room - nestled deep in the bowels of the ship for protection - must have 1 core and normally the weapons computers ,possibly a power supply and faction module.
    2. Power Room- where your power generation comes from - needs SD HCT power things set out to produce an adequate amount of power, maybe some power storage block and sheilds (the best layout depends on your ship size, a long thin ship works better with a long line (or several) of power gen cubes)
    3. Weapon Bays - normally stuffed with all of your weaponry, set out to give the most dam/reload ect.
    4. Corridor/way to access core- whether it be a fancy corridor or a little plexidoor hatch in the roof youll need someway to get to your core.
    5. Cargo bay (not necessary) - if you have a big transporting ship this is ideal - contain many many chests to store all of your useless crap in
    6. Holes between walls (not necassary) if your ship design has hollow walls i reccomend stuffing them with sheilds or even more power just to give you that little bit more protection.

    Holes between walls? really?

Well War Dog... Your post was just a big bunch of statements. But ill answer anyway.

Whatever you want to be on the ship can and should be on there. If using for realism, think of what a space crew would need on the ship

    sleeping quarters

    mess hall and kitchen

    restrooms

    deck

    core engine room

    showers.

just whatever you feel like putting on is good enough.

The topic was a rush job yeah, I\'ll have it dressed up real quick.

Also, how do you hide giant shotguns of blocks? Because let\'s face it, shotgun arrays > everything else in terms of DPS.

    Case in point: http://i.imgur.com/keB29jj.png

(Yeah the bottom turrets are backwards but there\'s nothing I can do about that.)

Amc can fire through a hull block if its placed directly in front of the amc. so just put the array hidden behind the hull.

Flying boxes of guns and shields are pretty boring, I try to build my ships like they might actually be a real spaceship so I put heavy focus on internals:

Core Room/ Main Engineering/ Power Generators

    Galley + Mess hall

Fire Control (if your guns are in a place that is visible)

    Main Bridge

Crew quarters + (officer + captains)

Bathroom Facilities (I mostly just add showers, I pretend my toilets fold out of the walls)

Cargo Hold + Auxiliary storage rooms

Airlocks (Doors to Space is a pet peeve of mine)

Aeroponics/ Hydroponics + Protein resequencers (Grow your own food = more time in deep space)

One thing at a time for a budding shipbuilder eh?

Simplicity and Utility can also be considered a form of elegance after all.

I also just found out that manufacturing objects like paints and SD Expanders can be used as decorations; it should open up a ton of options.

Well I started building a flagship a while ago (Still not finished, it\'s a big ship and I\'m taking a break from the game) and I put in:

    • The crew quarters
    • The bridge
    • A generator room
    • Two engine rooms
    • Two weapon rooms (Not armouries, rooms where the ship\'s main weapons are mounted)

    And I\'m planning on adding:

    • A med-bay
    • A mess hall
    • A kitchen
    • An observation deck
    • A bio-sphere (Or just a room if it doesn\'t look that great.)
    • A hanger
    • Possibly a vehicle bay, although I probably won\'t be landing something about half the size of a planet... :P
    • The Captain\'s quarters
    • A room full of red-shirts, to throw at enemies if we run out of power.
    • Bathrooms (Can\'t just use the airlocks, you can dump the contents into space all you want, but it\'s not going to clean the walls and floor.)
    • A commonroom (Not paying for TVs in every room, you only get the one. If you break it you\'re going to have to read. Don\'t have books? Don\'t worry, we have safety leaflets.)
    • A room full of escape pods
    • A panic room for when you know you\'re doomed :)
    • A cargo hold
    • Airlocks (Obviously, I\'m not breaking a hole in my ship every time I want to get out.)

There may be a couple of non-essential things in there, but they\'re just some ideas I had.

i cant express this further enough if you cant leave the vessel without dieing if your under attack then what good is it? if you have a big crew and a planet is nearby how will they escape to that planet? they cant just space walk over there other than that i whould suggest some kind of energy room where you can check up on the energy levels of the vessel......
