Ah, shields - aren't they just wonderful? They easily prevent your ship or station from being blown to pieces by enemy missiles. However, I'm noticing a problem with the way the shields work.
So, I was attacking a pirate station recently to practice my fighter-piloting skills. I fired my antimatter cannons and missiles to take out the turrets, as anyone probably would. However, I started to notice that the turrets were still relatively intact (minus the antimatter fire, of course). Upon further inspection, I learned that the station's shields were interfering. This is what I've gathered:
When a shield is hit by a missile, it (obviously) reduces the damage done to 1 per missile (or something like that). While this protects the station as it should, It also seems to reduce damage done to anything caught in the blast radius, which means that a nearby unshielded turret also gets the defensive bonus. Similarly, if the turret is hit directly by a missile, the station's shields (being in the blast radius) reduce the overall damage done (as it normally done). If the turret is detatched from its dock, It appears to take missile damage again.
Basically, the station's shields are defending the unshielded turrets against missile damage; damage from anitmatter fire is unaffected. From what I can tell, this is a glitch that needs to be fixed. However, If this is an actual game mechanic or if I'm just hitting things at an incorrect angle, I apologize for wasting a thread.
