I have a suggestion for mirroed hull blocks. These would be hulls (or plating) you could put on the outside of your ship. When traveling close to a star, any damage done by the star would be negated if the damage is done to this block. They would have extremely low health though, so space combat near a star would quickly result in dead ships once some mirroed hull blocks were destroyed.
