Bleh. Third thread this week in GD. I'm starting to think this is spam seeing as nobody else posts stuff.
God dammit community why can't you be more active

Anyway. Back when Calbiri released the concept of the weapons systems there was a system called "minelayer".

Where did that go? It adds a lot of cool features that I would love to add to my weapons (Flak cannons and Massive charge lasers). Also bombs.

Every other weapon's mechanic was already in the game when the weapons-update was announced.

They are still planned, though their effects may vary from what we originally planned (as some of those functions were used in the other combos.)

Yeah, I was wondering where it was...

My guess is that it was too difficult or finicky. Remember, a mine is likely to be a physical entity so they'd have to balance it to make sure the battlefield isn't littered with them (lag). Hope they're added soon!

Well they don't really need physical properties, do they, seeing as they go boom on touching anything?
Ah well then. Good to know they're still planned.

    Touching implies physicality... :P

Touchching does imply physicality, but what you really need to consider is this: to what extent is it physical?

Does it need to be affected by pull/push beams? How about damage-dealing things? Do they attract heatseekers? Or do they simply explode if whatever touches them?

I can't wait to find out how they'll fit in, but one thing is for sure: they will have physical properties that can be anywhere from easy to challenging to implement, depending on what they'll be fit for.

    Edit: wording

will logic be capable to charge up weapons and also will charge up weapons have longer range. I want to be able to build a halo ring that charges up then destroys most things within 10000m of it's range.[DOUBLEPOST=1410165599,1410165552][/DOUBLEPOST]I could also make the star wars moon sized detroier[DOUBLEPOST=1410165638][/DOUBLEPOST]cool it works

I would like charge things to loose charge over time if you not continue to supply power.

Running around with a fully charged warp drive should be a bad idea if your not going to use it (else you could describe it as : power cost to cool-down :D).

Maybe let each mine-layer array only support 10 / (sectors distance) mines per block.

If a mine-field is not supported any-more it becomes abandoned and
these join together to one single per sector + attack everybody or just expire and disappear?

The field just needs a few values:
    position
    density
    radius
    MineLayer effects:
activate if you are within 1/2 radius distance to the mine field centre
push = decrease density until you move (slower in big minefields)
pull = increase density until you move (slower in big minefields)
activate outside this 1/2 radius distance
pull = drag the minefield (slower with big minefields)
    activate
push = keeps yourself healthy while flying through minefields.
    energy cost for 100% resistance = minefieldDensity / shipSize (x*y*z)^(2/3) * shipMass * blockCost
    Density:
    higher = stronger
    lower = larger area

If a ship flies through it has (speed * volume in ship{x*y*traveledDistance} * density) mines per tick thrown at it.
if 2.33, 0.33 mines are preserved and added to the next tick.

Mines spawn as static projectiles in a grid around the ship, but spawned mines can have a random offset from the grid node position. Maybe they can get shot at or start flying onto you at a certain distance (like if you are a magnet).
Distance to the ship decreases with density of the mine-field.

    Would you like that?

    Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Yet another weapon whose effects will simply be copied and then pasted everywhere!!!
And most likely pointless with non-damage beams!!!
    Aaaaaagggggghhhhh!!!

    And now: zen....
I can just change the config values myself. So that is settled.
Now. About break off physics which still need to be implemented, together with a serious nerf to punchthrough. If loads of physical mines can be laid without lag, maybe there is still hope for it...

Someone try modifying the configuration file so that one of the missile combos gives missiles an extremely long life and about 0.0001 speed. Boom, minelayers. :P

I kinda like building mines out of Dis-Integrators, push modules and whatever else I can think of. It's a fun challenge that actually influences the design of a ship: unlike the rest of the weapons.

Nah, you need pull for mines :p

sadly not affects the own too.
