    Heres the loose concept.

Use the old docking system box setup

The power/speed of the repair system is defined by the number of astrotech blocks, the size of the that can be repaired is defined by enhancers. Anything that fits inside the box (which IMHO should be visible always) can receive limited repairs of some sort.

This would allow fleets to create a floating repair dock and stations to have a repair facility

It'd be easier to make it so the length, width, and height have an affect on the beam for a group in the face direction. Say repair amount is one of those lengths, repair depth is another, and repair beam width is the last one. :) No need for enhancers on this although different effects and weapons could change the outcome of the beam fired as well. :)

Thats fine too ... like I said, tossing out a loose concept with a possible option.

Of course for astrotech to have a chance to become useful it will have to become (as I said above) more of a beam pulse that penetrates the ship for repair as opposed to only the block you can see.
