Lowest possible settings / Docking a large turret?

So I have a rather large turret that I need to dock to my ship, and its quite a pain. I'm getting about 1 frame every 5 seconds when I get really closeup, and I just can't dock like that. I'd like to know what I could change in the Settings.CFG file to get the best performance so I can dock this thing. If anybody has an alternative method, tips or whatnot, please tell me, I'm having quite a bad time with this..

AFAIK the lagging is because of collision detection from large vessels close to each other. The only setting I see in the server.cfg is PHYSICS_SLOWDOWN_THRESHOLD. You can trying decreasing it to see if it\'s better.
