I haven't played since the new launcher got released and now I'm trying to jump back on and play it. I start it up from steam and the launcher says it needs to update, so I let it update and it'll sit there for a few seconds then the whole thing turns white and that's it. I don't know what's going on or how to fix it, so I tried to use the old launcher since I was used to that last time.

Game works but not my old save so I just made a new one. I reset my laptop since I last played so the memory settings weren't set right and the game lagged out and wouldn't play very well. So I changed the memory settings to the recommended settings and now I get the "failed to start virtual machine" error. So now I have two issues and can't play the game at all. I know the second one is a java issue, and the first I just haven't seen anyone talk about it. Any help would be appreciated since I have friends bugging me to play with them.

where did you install the Launcher and where the Game ?
In case the places are different, just delete the launcher and download it again. maybe a file corruption occured.
if it isnt working then ... there is a launcher log file after a launcher start in the launcher directory, upload that here then.

I'm pretty sure they were both downloaded in the same spot since I tried a full reinstall to see if that would help. Everything is on my external hard drive. I take it when you say launcher you mean the new one, correct?

Yes .. the new one. It was developed to kill most of the usual problems that do come up with running starmade.
I hope its a SATA external drive and not an USB drive. IF it is USB .. move it to something faster.
You could download the launcher from here to bypass steam StarMade (select new launcher there)
just in case there is any weirdness going on there right now (especially with steam problems yesterday of some kind)

Yes it is USB 3.0. I don't rightly see how that'd be an issue, especially since it's worked so well before. But just for location purposes I tried the steam bypass and reinstalled the game onto my main HD and they both work fine. I'm going to try the external HD again, but that still doesn't make sense why that'd be an issue now after all this time. (It has worked with the beta version of the laucnher.)

Update: Turns out I just needed to wipe the game folder clean and reinstall it to the HD. It works now, must have been some corrupted data.
