Landing Gear

    So what I suggest is a block that weakens or completely ignores collision damage when landing on a planet( or possibly even a station). They could be activated in the hotbar and would take up a minimal amount off power. Does anyone agree?

    I would simply suggest a nerfed damage threshold, so that the default one doesn't obliterate your ship when you tap another object at 2m/s.

    I've used plexdoors as landing legs before. I don't think landing gear are very needed as planetary ships are VTOLs in the sense that if you want to you can take off vertically rather than horizontally. Moreover the majority of fighters I have that can land on planets just have flat bellies, because landing gear tend to make fighters get stuck in terrain.

    My two cents, anyways.

    Oh, I know! I'm doing two fleets of fully RP ships + stations + defenses + ground forces + strike craft, so I've put a lot of thought into RP. The problem is, a square block for landing gear would be kind of ugly and would do the same thing that plexdoors can do. Honestly, I'd like pentas/tetras/corners/wedges for plexdoors, and just make appealing shapes out of them.

    this was mentioned during tonight's live stream for mushroom fleet.

    scheema himself was present, and stated that he would do a block which worked exactly as suggested it completely ignores collisions. but it would need to be worked out so only small craft can use them. the concept of a super huge dreadnaught parking on a planet was just silly. he didn't elaborate more than simply that it was due to happen but was sided for other more important updates at the moment.

    But then you would still take damage!

    as a besides note he also said a rotation block or hinge like joint was also planned. so the idea of a walking mech in the near future is coming soon.

    Okay, so there are plexlanders, but this is for when you land on a planet before you place plexlanders?

    Plexlanders aren't used for anything currently. They were replaced by the new docking modules a while back.

    maybe instead of gear, you use a beam, kinda like the docking beam but can will land at the same orientation as the object it is pointed at.

    Were the lander used on ships or on the platform they should land on?
