umm...cant you put plating all over the ships? i think they will look better when they are fully armoured. .also to help you out(if you need it) these r some helpfull commands in SP

The ships dont seem to be as much of a threat without armor, and look more like suicide ships that you would use to just \"Zerg Rush\" the enemy with.
Adding amor doesn\'t only make a ship look presentable but also provides a bit of protection from enemy fire and helps you stand a better chance in combat.

However I do like the look of the \"x2009charger\", I say only the look because I don\'t know the stats for the ship yet but it does have potential for a nice ship all together.
