Key mapping status?

I've been looking for info on the current situation regarding key mapping on the forums and elsewhere and so far found nothing concrete on this issue. The roadmap doesn't feature it, it's hardly raised as an issue on the forums, except for plaintive comments from people like myself who are left handed and find key configuration a nightmare, and to be honest, pretty awful overall (duplication for common controls, for example).

Could the devs perhaps offer an update or explanation on what the situation is regarding key mapping?
