After looking at the game for some time, I have a few suggestions I would really like to see.
Sometimes, when doing really long flights, it gets boring and there are things you want to do whilst you wait. A system to automatically pilot your ship towards a particular sector or object. Basically, if this were to be implimented, all it would theoretically be would be an option in navigation to set your ship on an automatic flight, with object avoidance.
Planets and Gravity currently work strangely, being flat, and allways orientated towards the sector grid. This works, but it's not particularly appealing. A suggestion for a change in planets, would be to make them blocky cubes. Now, to avoid people falling off the sides of planets, the gravity would have to automatically re-orientate depending on the face the player is on. This would also have to re-orientate the player, a feature currently impossible.
Flight is nice, and so is Autopilot, but the idea of a sort of computer system, (Similar to that of Minecraft's ComputerCraft), that a user can program to modify system functions such as Core Acceleration and Angle, Weapons system, power distribution and more. Of course, this would be used in conjunction with inputs from objects like powercores to get how much power is in the ship, Shields, for how the shields are holding up, Thrusters for acceleration information, Core for Location and Gyroscopic, and Cockpits for Forward based Raytrace. This could also be used with a form of 'Monitor' system, that dispays the outputs.
Basically, bigger ships are impossible to dock, and enemy ships are uncontrollable. Thus, the idea of a towing module comes to mind. More like a tractor beam, the module would work to lock the targeted ship to a close position of the towing modules, making tow ships and distant 'Docking' to stations possible.
Basically, a weapon designed to shoot a laser against an allied or enemy ship in order to lend the user's shield supply to the target, and spread it out. Allowing for smaller ships to act as shields to escort bigger ones.
