Idea: Link an activator to a warp gate computer and switch it OFF to disable/lock the gate. This will disable both departure from and arrival to the gate.

Reason: Sometimes it's nice to keep people out of your jump gates. I've seen players use doors to stop ships from passing though, but it would be simpler if the gate could simply be shut off when you don't want anyone using it.

EDIT: As an additional feature, the gate computer should send out a logic pulse when something passes through it. This could be used for any number of things, including locking the gate after use.

I like that. Especially since that way arrivals could potentially be blocked too, unlike with these contraptions:

Yes, gates on both ends should be deactivated. I'll edit that into the OP for clarity.

how about a way to automatically shut them off after they have been passed through?

Well, that could be done with logic if the logic system knew something went through. All you need is a pulse out of the gate computer to do that. I'll add this to the OP as well.

you could always remove one block of the gate then replace it for now.

What about letting a block on a rail complete circuits. That way you could have a gate, jumpdrive,or weapon that could be modded or activated/deactivated by a gap bridging rail.

    THIS :)

Or you can expand your wings to gain more power through the grid-size-bonus.
