Ion cannons *could* rebalance AMC's!

    At the moment, AMC's are effective against everything, and missiles are only effective against hull.

    How about we nerf AMC's again, but introduce ion cannons, which are super effective vs shields!

    Since I'm not good at describing with words, I give you a table:


    Thoughts?

    This way, gameplay in ship vs ship won\'t just be \'point and hold\'.

    But if you want to change ship-ship combat, make it so blowing up the core disables the whole ship.And also, it isn\'t just point and hold. There are a lot of tactics involved - for instance, taking a small ship against a larger one and hiding in her blind spots, or having your fighters target enemy turrets, etc. Stuff like that

    This is a really simple and elegant solution to a problem that has plagued this game for a long time. It could be easily implemented as another type of beam weapon too! I love you.

    It would be cool having ion missiles that do damage to shields in the blast radius of the explosion, for taking out turret shields.

    Ion cannons would most likely be an awesome addition. No flubbery about ion missiles - ion cannons are the way to go. This would make antimatter cannons jack of all trades and master of none - a good position for the weapon that\'s currently the ONLY way to take down shields, and shouldn\'t be.

    As to whether they should be beam or projectile weapons, I think they should be projectile weapons. Maybe a light blue projectile tapered at the back, scaleable like the AMC\'s shots. As to visual distinction: I have a very simple idea on that. Give ion cannons AMCs\' current sprite, and give antimatter cannons maybe a white glow instead?

    Just a thought,

    If there were turbolasers, they would do 25 effectiveness to shields, and 75 effectiveness to hull.

    OR

    If there were turbolasers, they would do equal effectiveness as AMC do, but have a stronger impact against hardened hull.

    If there were turbolasers they would have to do splash damage like missiles but on a much smaller scale, maxing out after like 4 blocks of radius, and only starting to do splash damage after like 50 blocks in an array.
