Intense frame drops

Anyone care to explain the crazy frame drops I've been getting. It wasn't like this a few updates ago but I'm starting to think that it's the shader update that is really causing this. I can only place around 2-5 blocks before I drop to 1 fps and I have to wait 5 secs before my fps recovers. Before, I would be able to place blocks without any frame drops or at least very little. It also effect my ship core because my cores are invisible and inaccessible when I first create them and I have to wait around a minute for it to appear. Are there any other similair occurences? any recommendations?

turn off shaders completely, did it a long time ago

the invisable core thing happens with me when making a new ship, but only for about 5 seconds.

How do I turn shaders off, are they in the options?
