A ship class system for an RP server that focuses on mostly smaller builds. It's very well thought out and most roles are covered. Suggestions for new classes are welcome, and I don't mind if you take the system and tweak the numbers higher or lower to suit your own needs. I would appreciate it if you would make a note of where you got the classes if you decide to do this. Many of the less used ideas for here came from the comments on the classification page of the wiki.

This may be one of the most comprehensive lists yet (thank you for thinking up a civ. ship classification part), but I still have a problem with the weight of a ship determining it\'s class. Role should be the primary factor, but it\'s size is important as well.

Take for example my ship I just built: Umber class Destroyer. It has a 2.1K mass placing it under most of these guides as a Cruiser or Battleship...... while it\'s appearance and it\'s role are clearly that of a destroyer.

The Umber class destroyer\'s role is support and direct forward firepower, it uses a balance of speed, frepower, and shields to do it\'s job well. It really doesnt play the part or look the part of a BB, and it\'s only about 100m long so even by modern wet navy standards its\' tiny (Arleigh Burkes are 155m).

I have set aside some special classes because of this. Size classification is just easier and more reliable. I\'ve also slightly modified my list since posting it, increasing weights some and adding in a couple new classes to the military category. I\'m about to edit it. Also, you\'re welcome, and feel free to modify this list to your preference.

No, I tend to agree, weight isn\'t the best way to classify. But it\'s easier and people will better recognize how large a ship is if you sort by weight.

As far as the five or so dozen different ship classification guides go (Admittedly including my own.) this list is spectacularly uninspired.
