I haven't found any documentation on the map feature to speak of. And even the help screen (F1/F11) doesn't work right now.
BUT the map does. This thread is for those who want to post what they find the map does do right now. Only what you know, please. Not what you'd like it to do or opinions about it. There is a poll at the top of the page for opinions.
So. If you hit the "P" key the map comes up. But you can't see it unless you are looking at "space". It appears to render the map in the same context as the game objects, so you need empty space in front of you to see everything clearly.
Basically, jump in a core. Go outside and look in a direction where there isn't anything but "space". Then hit "P" and the map will be there.
Here's what I know it can do right now:
->WASD EQ will move the little cube around, even into other "systems". try it and you'll see what I mean.
->The number keys "1" through "3" seem to toggle ghosting of all but specific objects. Not 100% what each thing is supposed to be showing, but it is obviously meant for something.
->The number "4" seems to be a way to toggle everything back on.
->You can click and drag to rotate the map around to get a better look at one area or another.
Not a complete feature yet by any means. But since the devs don't seem to have published anything about this we need some way share our knowledge. So, please post what you know
