I haven't played in awhile, I've started to play a little this past week and I've been spending hours scouring the wiki, watching tutorials, and building test ships and targets, and it's all starting to mix together.

I now realize that while I'm trying to armor my ship, each armor block now has 4 different kinds of HP.

I just want to know where the damage goes when you shoot blocks with a 10/100/1000 damage cannon. Ice crystal, Hull, Standard Armor, Advanced Armor, and Shield Capacitor please.

    1. All damage goes to shield HP until shields are down, then blocks receive damage.
    2. 50% of all damage received by blocks with armor HP (hull, standard/advanced armor, ship core, etc., but not faction modules) is redirected to armor HP until these are depleted. The remaining 50% goes to block HP.
    3. Damage received by armored blocks (standard/advanced armor, faction modules, etc., but not hull blocks) is reduced by armor percentage.
    4. If a block is destroyed, its structure HP are subtracted from the pool, but unlike the armor HP pool the structure HP pool doesn't help preventing block damage. If structure HP goes below 50% the core starts overheating.
    Example:
1000 Damage, 500 shield/armor/structure HP, standard armor block (60% armor, 100 HP, 5 structure HP)
    1. 500 damage go to shields, depleting them
    2. 250 damage goes to armor HP, reducing them to 250.
    3. The remaining 250 damage are reduced by 60% to 100.
    4. The remaining 100 damage are just enough to destroy the standard armor block, thus structure HP are reduced by 5 to 495.
Edit: Further testing showed that damage to armor HP is not reduced by block armor, I changed that accordingly.

It should be noted that block armour does not reduce the entirety of the damage, if 100,000 damage hits a block with 250hp and a 75% armor rating only the 1000 damage required to break the block will be reduced rather than the the entire 100,000.

    This requires further clarification:
    • If the projectile from your example does 100,000 damage in a single instance, then 99,000 of it is simply lost. If 100,000 is the total damage of a cannon projectile (which has built-in punch-through), then the first damage instance is 5290.3, which would result in 4290.3 damage being lost and 45 more damage instances (each one smaller than the previous one, down to 17.0) remaining unaffected by the first block's armor.
    • If it's a beam weapon (which has built-in piercing), then it's more complicated and possibly bugged.
