I can't turn blocks

When im building a ship or spacestation i cant use CTRL when im holding any kind of block,
wich means that i cant turn any block wich makes my ships/station look verry unfinished.
can somebody help with this?

What do you mean holding any block? You need to place the blocks in the bottom actionbar, not pick them in \"hand\" when placing.

Are you in build mode or just floating around placing blocks?

i should be more clear,
When i am in build mode, and i want to place a black hull wedge but the direction of it is the wrong way,
so i keep it selected in my actionbar and press CTRL to change direction. But when i press CTRL my ship gets invisable and i have to restart to get it visable again. Am i doing something wrong?
