So. I actually did something. No, not what is in the DO A THING! in my signature, something else.
What I did (aka: What not to do!)
You know that now the missile radius actually works right? And that it is configurable?
(You can see where this is going, if not, carry on reading! If you did guess, carry on reading anyway! It will be fun, well, sort of).
I wanted to build a ship capable of destroying a planet in one go. When I realised that I couldn't do it without using more than 3 million blocks, I decided it wasn't worth it. And then it hit me.
I could just cheat!
So I went to the config, looked up the missile, and increased it's base value range and damage dramatically. And the result was spectacular.
This next bit probably won't be a good idea for people with slow computers (but try it anyway!)
So I started a new game, bought a missile computer and module, and built my
SHIP OF DOOM!!!!
And I fired at the first asteroid I saw. And boy was it worth it!
The whole thing just disappeared. Seconds later (there was quite a substantial delay) there was loads of debris spawning where the asteroid once was. It was fun, but unfortunately the blast radius only applies to the object that is hit, so no mass extinction of asteroids that day.
Next I fired at a space station. And that was where things got more interesting. Now I knew it would be big, but when the missile hit the station the whole thing just exploded, gone, and there was so much potential debris... But the game lagged too much. So I set out to the nearest planet, and started phase 3 of my plan to destroy the universe.
I got to a nice small planet. It had a radius of 38, which meant that my computer could still handle it exploding.
So I blew it up. Well, first I destroyed a segment. Segments apparently aren't connected to a planet core, so none of the damage went through to it. I just blew a big gaping hole in one side of the planet, and it looked amaaaaaaazing! Next up I destroyed the planet core. There was a bit of lag, but it was not that spectacular.
And this is where the game starts breaking
So I decided to go to a more decent sized planet, because lets face it, destroying a segment of a planet with a radius of 38 isn't really a huge achievement. So I went to the nearest planet, which just happened to have a radius of 261. And this you must have seen coming.
I shot at the planet segment, the game froze, everything started lagging aaaaaaaand:
The game crashed.
It was so big that the game just gave up, like that, without warning. It didn't even have the decency to give me the possibility to fill out a crash report. Apparently it found the reason for the crash a bit too obvious. Which it was, but i was still mildly offended by it.
So, that was my experience with cheating in starmade. Feel free to post your own experience of literally game breaking but awesome stuff, and I have just a dew words before I let any of you post anything:
I will be back!
When the game gets better effects.
