Hitpoints not persistant between game sessions

Hi Guys,

Just wondering, I stepped on a lava patch yesterday, silly me, so my HP bar took a hit. Time to score a medical bay or at least a medpack. Since it was time to start dinner I exited the game at this point, but this morning after starting up again my HP bar was full as if nothing had happened.
Glitch, intended behavior, or what, any ideas?
