Factions, let me start this out by saying that I'm really, really excited for the Blood and Steel tournament that's coming up. My own faction is participating, and I'm curious as to which factions will be attending this trial of combat and ship building skills. And no, I'm not a team member for Blood and Steel, just excited for it.

So, factions- are you going to be participating in this event? It's a perfect opportunity to get fleet combat practice, and to launch some missiles into the faces of some enemies who you aren't ready to face in a scenario with limited resources like EE, or just to show off your builds even if you can't win the combat portion.

PS- Don't know what Blood and Steel is? Check it out here- http://starmadedock.net/threads/starside-blood-and-steel-tournament.5600/

Is anyone else going to participate in blood and steel? I'd like to know myself.

Nope, just glanced through the rules. While I understand the reasoning, it seems limiting. The mass limit can far to easily be covered by 1 ship. ships roughly the size of what major factions use. 120,000 blocks, that rule out all carriers/titans/super weapon ships the factions have. the ones we insist on bringing into battle XD

I guess it's to avoid lag or at least players who would use "lag" as an excuse for bad piloting skills :p

    We will be participating.
[DOUBLEPOST=1423245815,1423245542][/DOUBLEPOST]And I must say that the mass limits of the competition makes the whole event perfect. It gives a chance for us using the low-tier ships that we never use in real situations on real servers, say, EE. (example : fighters, corvettes, light frigates)

You can still bring carriers and superweapons. Just scale them down. Drones only weigh like 100-200 mass a piece. You really think you can't make a ship that can carry a couple dozen of them?

Also, I think part of the mass limit was specifically to get people and factions to build some new things.

Why would we want to build new things when we spent months building our existing fleets?

IMO an event that pitches factions against each other should try to be more flexible to what they already have, not asking them to build smaller ships so they can be used once in 1 event :)

Why would you want to have the same, stagnating, unchanging fleet till the end of time once you've built it? Anyway, what kind of self-respecting fleet doesn't contain a few smaller ships?

It's fun and a change of pace to need to construct a brand new, smaller fleet in just a few weeks. Stagnation is boring.

My ship is already finished. It's a refitted version of the DFN Rockhopper, with a full interior and some systems like the jump drive left out to keep it below the mass limit for the contest.

I shall remove the jump drives of the ships that will be used as well, since I always make them as fast-recharging as possible. Well, we won't be able to jump anyway, since it's only in a sector.

That was my logic. I shaved off as much extra weight as I could because I knew that the ship would be way over the limit.

NFD will have a team participating... hopefully.

My computer is having fps issues in SM and our main systems guy, ASM, had his computer damaged recently so we might not be able to get a ship built in time. Anyway if assorted computer problems are fixed NFD will be there.

Also if factions are interested I would be willing to look into hosting a faction version of the tournement on the NFD server with higher mass limits.
