Yup, definitely try slabs. We are gonna be getting some form of slab wedges and-the-like sometime too, so in the future you could upgrade easily!

Edit: Also, those ships look awesome! Have you thought of making some smaller ones for the Official Fleets Contest? I'd love to see a style like that used by a procedural faction, for sure.
