help with my skin?

I am not an expert per se,but that is not how its supposed to look,the layout and all the shapes in your picture are wrong.
looking at the skin and the way you copy pasted pictures on these shapes I assume this is your first time trying to make a skin so I would recommend asking someone to do one for you.
But this is the right layout:

You'll want to put the different parts into the appropriate areas on a 256x256 image. I have attached the template that comes with the game.
(normally found in the data\SkinningResources folder)

You can download Gimp to resize the image, however, this skin layout is not correct. You will need to cut out each element and lay them over the Starmade skin template in the proper orientation.

Just to clarify, you are not limited to 256x256, you can go higher. There is a limit on how big the file can be, though I don't remember what it is.
