I got a new laptop, and it claims there is a graphics card error. The following message appeared pasted over the connection setup screen:

A JVM crash has been detected

(if you have already taken care of the problem, you can ignore this message, and it wont show again)

Otherwise: This crash is most likely caused by a graphics card driver error.
I can't really do much myself to fix this kind of problem.

Updating your graphics card driver is the best change to solve this problem!

The problem is 99% on Intel cards. If you have an Intel card, please try:
    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics

if it still doesn't work you have to find and download the driver manually from intel.com, since the update tool doesn't always supply the newest version
I hope this information helps you

Anyways, I've tried six or seven ways to update my driver, and it consistently claims that I'm up to date. Starmade crashes equally consistently. I'm sorry if I got any part of the error message wrong, copy-paste didnt work so that was all manual. Also, I've had a really sucky day. My MC server is just about destroyed by a single hacker. Who happens to be a good friend.

Intel HD Graphics. I can't find the actual product info, which is driving me nuts.

You can get the exact graphics details (if your using windows) by typing "dxdiag" into the start menu search.
