Welcome to my thread, where I present to you the following:
As you may or may not know, I've pulled a ship classification out of my pocket once already. It's still on the old site and grossly outdated. It had some great improvements over the then big classification systems, Blitzwing and Nameless: Not everything was based on mass, length or other null-tells. I had a graph.
However, that was also its biggest flaw. While I got praise for my creative approach people also wanted to know exact numbers. Moreover, my graph only had two dimensions, for obvious reasons, which still wasn't the best for classifying ships properly. I abandoned that prototype early and promised people I'd work on it.
Long story short, I didn't until I got into StarMade again recently. I took it up again, made it better, independent of the limited medium that images provide. Instead of just classifying ships, I decided it would be a good idea to classify anything that might be of importance.
There have been many ship classification guides. Fewer turret classifications have been set up. As far as I know, no one has tried to categorize space stations. But is that all there's to the game? There are also planets and asteroids. Although they are not made by us, they may prove to be of significance in some situations. If they are of significance, we do need to communicate clearly, which is a clear indicator that we need a standard. A standard like mine, perhaps, which strives to take care of everything.
Feedback would be most welcome.
Remember: I'm not trying to force this down anyone's throat. I'm simply trying to offer an alternative to what's already there. Consider this an update to my earlier Flex-VCM.
