FPS drops after exiting Starmade

I've been noticing that my FPS drop dramatically in other programs after I've been playing in Starmade. I've been solving the problem by rebooting my computer, but if there is an easier way, perhaps a lingering file that can be shut down in task manager, I'd appreciate any feedback on it. Thanks.

Check in the taskmanager if Java.exe is still running or if starmade-launcher.exe is still running after exiting the game

Thanks for the suggestion - I have looked for java running, since that's what I usually see when playing Starmade. It hasn't appeared in task manager when I've seen this problem occur. I've tried to look for other applications that might be associated with the game, particularly anything that actually has "starmade" in it, but haven't had any luck.

sorry .. no idea then .. nothing else than those two things should ever show up when running starmade afaik.

maybe use this to monitor your GPU ... could it be that it is thermal throttling ?
