    Hi Folks,

I had a wee play with the Prebuild to have a nosey at how Fleets are looking. It's very cool to see ships falling into formation!

The thing I noticed is, the create Fleet and Fleet management in the prebuild I checked out (starmade-build_20160218_174016) in general is really formation management.

I would expect to be able to have a fleet of ships, and these ships then fall into multiple formations.

Then I would manage everything with directives categorised as Fleet, Mission, Formation, Individual (Planet, Structure, NPC).

    For example,

I would have a Fleet of say, 6 ships.

Ship 1 - The Flag Ship
    Ship 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 - other ships in the fleet.

Then I would have formations within the fleet.

    Formation 1
Ship 1,2 & 3 (Where 1 is the leader in the formation)

    Formation 2 would have
Ships 4 & 5, with 4 the leader in the formation.

    Formation 3
Ship 6 (naturally the leader since it's the only one)

Directives would be categorised as mentioned above and then have priorities, with a bias towards a certain action to take based on situation data. Perhaps a weighted calculation could be applied to act as the bias or priority to simulate some kind of fuzzy logic decision process.
Anyway, some examples of this would be.

    Fleet Directives
    - Protect/Defend Faction
    - Protect/Defend Allies
    - Protect/Defend Flag Ship or designated target
    - Attack Enemies
    - Trade X with Ally Y

    Mission Directives
    - Obey Fleet Directives else on mission
    - Carry out primary orders
    - Carry out secondary orders
    - Carry out tertiary orders

    Formation Directives
    - Obey Fleet Directives else on mission
    - Protect/Defend Lead Ship
    - Protect/Defend Self
    - Attack Enemy
    - Repair Lead Ship
    - Repair Formation member with most damage else already under way then repair next most damaged
    - Carry out primary orders
    - Carry out secondary orders
    - Carry out tertiary orders

    Individual Directives
    - Obey Fleet Directives else on mission
    - Obey Mission Directives else in formation
    - Obey Formation Directives else individual
    - Protect/Defend Self
    - Attack Enemy
    - Repair Self
    - Carry out primary orders
    - Carry out secondary orders
    - Carry out tertiary orders

I agree. Some example to show why:

    Flagship: (directives sorted)
    1. Survive
    2. Help fighting
    3. Do not travel with the Captain's Shuttle away
    4. Emergency Escape Jump
    5. Do not jump with fighters away
    Captain's Shuttle
    1. Do diplomatic missions (fetch trade offers, carry high-valuable, low-amount cargo)
    2. Block the Flagship's free movement to about 8 sectors around.

Additional request for me would be a better logging system so you can have a ships log with general and specific logging sections like, Mission, Engineering, Medical, Security and Science logs.

Although, a bigger logging system would allow us to created this for ourselves. I guess this would be added into the Display module functionality perhaps.

There's one important category I missed that comes before formation and that's Armada.
