    The current 5-rank system is limiting and doesn't allow for an ingame indication of the more complicated rank system most factions have. I propose that, first of all, perhaps a faction's maximum number of ranks could be increased to, say, 6. (Think Ensign, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, Admiral.) Additionally, it should be possible to create multiple divisions.

    For example, a new member applying to be a member of the Space Navy (In other words, to be a pilot or captain) would be put into that division, which would probably consist of generic naval ranks - Ensign, Lieutenant, Lt. Commander, Commander, and Captain. However, a member applying to be an engineer/industrial specialist would be put in that division, consisting of Engineering Recruit, Engineer, and Engineering Supervisor. Additionally, a faction could have a set of ranks for a command division - something like Admiral, Joint Chief of Staff, and Supreme Commander/Commander in Chief/Grand Admiral/whatever.

    Promotion and demotion of lower-ranked members within a division would be new configurable rank permissions for each rank.

    I extremely dislike that we are only limited to 5 faction ranks. It leaves little to no room for progression for faction members to move up without trust issues. I'm also intrigued with your idea about being able to further identify faction members to a certain department/division/job/etc through a separate category system.

    Oh, I forgot to mention... Faction ranks should be enable/disable-able. If someone wants to be Dear Leader and have all other members be Comrade, and have no other ranks, that should absolutely be possible. :P

    Why not just allow adding any number of ranks, provided there are no more than x empty ranks, with x being a configurable value.

    That would be a good idea... I still want my division system to make the rank management easier, though.

    Interesting idea... but there also needs to be individual permissions too, so factions members can protect their ships and stuff from being raided by fellow faction members. Adding an "add personal signature" to the faction module would solve this.

    Ideally faction modules (and/or maybe faction permission modules) would have access control lists where one could specify fine-grained permissions based on (single or lists of) player names or accounts, factions, ranks etc., so you could block/allow individual, groups, individuals within groups, individuals outside certain groups, or any other combination. We may still dream, may we not?

    I think founders should be able to assign ship(s) to a certain member of the faction through the faction module, but only them. "Alright rookie, let's see what you're worth. Your ship's the Kestrel, it's been set to recognize your ID"

    Assigning ships should be another permission option configurable for each rank. Also, if a player created and factioned a ship, they should be able to claim it for themself regardless of rank permissions.

    I agree with all the above. And to add onto the ship assignment option, itd be cool to assign ranks to blueprints in catalog. For example the catalog has permission options of public, faction, faction home, and enemy for them admins. It would be cool if under the faction option to add rank assignment.

    Lastly, and I know we're stretchy the topic here a bit with all these ideas, but I remember somewhere before of a future feature of room designations. Labeling rooms as engineering, cargo, med bay, ect. It would be nice to see to add those same rank assignments to rooms with specific designations. For example, on a home base a room with permission to admirals only, or only allowing specific officers or ranks into cargo holds, to avoid in-faction theft. Just some thoughts.
